THE REAL COOKBOOK

Designed by Korefe, The Real Cookbook is the first and only Cookbook you can actually read, cook and eat. Packaged as classic lasagne, and made out of 100% fresh pasta it can be opened, filled with ingredients and finally be cooked. The Cookbook was designed as a special project for a large publishing house.

Film africain en francais

Tuesday night Maria, Wendy and myself wondered down to town to be all fancy like and go watch a movie at The Bioscope. The drive there was quite something to see. It had just rained, so everything was quiet and lights reflecting off of water all over the place. I tried to take a picture, but Maria advised me not to hang out of the car window with my camera. To say the least, the photo came out blurry. We ended up sneaking into the movie late, and then saw it was a French movie about a family somewhere in Africa called White Material. Can you say confuzzled? Well we were. But all and all it was really nice and we are planning a trip next week to go and check out All Tomorrow’s Parties.

After that we headed over to Odd Cafe for some good laughs and goooood chocolate cake! I picked up the fork so quick it left a print.

look how smart I am

I live in a beautiful city with beautiful people.

Friday me, Wendy and Alettie decided to mission down to good old town to see what it had to offer. We ended up at Fashion Fridays on Juta Street. What a pleasure for the eyes. After that we made a quick stop at 44 Stanley for some food in our bellies. Were we pleased by what awaited us there. Dinner outside, under trees and lanterns, while enjoying the fine tunes of folk/country/Gypsy band Runaway Train. Thanks for a great start to the weekend friends.

Let her have cake! I’ll make it for you

It was my mom’s birthday a while ago and I bought her this Cookbook from Woolworths. But was I surprised when I opened it. Miss Jane Hornby really did a good job with this. What made my heart leap like a goat through a field, was the food photography and how all the ingredients are so nicely set out. Going to treat Ma Bia with something out of this for Mother’s Day.

I Scream!

Today is the 119th Anniversary of the first documented Ice cream Sundae. A perfect Summer celebration as well I’ll say.

Some trivial fact about this delicious dessert from What’s Cooking America.

Some historians claim, but never proven to be true, that the name “sundae” was created in response to the “Blue Laws” which said that ice cream sodas could not be sold on Sundays because they were to “frilly.” For some reason the “righteous” very much against what they called “sucking soda” (especially on the Sabbath and the clergy started preaching against them). The dish has gone by other names at various time, most notably “sundi” and “sondhi.” Some accounts have explained all these names as attempts to avoid offending the sensibilities of the devoutly religious, which might take a dim view of a pile of ice cream and syrup being named after the Sabbath.”

Even though the Ice cream Sundae is delicious in so many ways, I still prefer the South African Ice cream Sundae, or at least the one we used to have when I was a kid. Yum Yum in my tum!
