Meet Mrs Jermyn. Mrs Jermyn makes awesome things. Mrs Jermyn Makes MrTedi. Mrs Jermyn was taught to crochet by her granny and her mom was a seamstress. Mrs Jermyn had no chance of getting away from making nice things.
Dear Mrs Jermyn, can I please have one of your MrTedies?
‘oritsunagumono’ (translated as ‘things folded and connected’) is a collection of origami works by artist Takayuki Hori created to highlight the environmental threat of pollution to a number of species native to japan’s coastal waterways.
Each one of these translucent sheet is first printed with either the images of fragments of an animal’s skeleton, or, on some pages, human-made discarded objects that are often eaten by the animals in the wild. Using the ancient tradition of folded paper, Hori folds these pages into beautiful 3D animals.
Last week I bought the new book of Marian Bantjes, I Wonder. She spent 15months writing, illustration and designing the book and it is printed in 5 colours throughout the book, where Gold is one of them. The book is printed on a coated stock and is a nice small size, because Marian intended for this book to be actually read and not only enjoyed for its visual beauty. Every single illustration is also new and created for the book, and the content is not about her work, but instead about how her observation about the world around her.
I have asked myself this question so many times, and I think it would be my laptop, my wacom, all my photos and books and my teddy Spencer, oh ya, and my big fluffy duvet a.k.a The Cloud.
Foster Huntington started the Burning House Project and started photographing all the stuff people would take with them in the unfortunate case of their house burning down, so The Burning House Project was born.
The wonderful folk over at The Plug had the most ingenious idea ever! He tied a disposable camera to a bench in a park and left it there with a sign.
Good afternoon,
I attached this camera to the bench so you could take pictures. Seriously. So have fun. I’ll be back later this evening to pick it up.
Love, Jay / The Plug
When he got it the next morning, the whole film was full and he got some really interesting photos out of it. Think it would work in our country? Think it is worth a shot.
Tuesday night Maria, Wendy and myself wondered down to town to be all fancy like and go watch a movie at The Bioscope. The drive there was quite something to see. It had just rained, so everything was quiet and lights reflecting off of water all over the place. I tried to take a picture, but Maria advised me not to hang out of the car window with my camera. To say the least, the photo came out blurry. We ended up sneaking into the movie late, and then saw it was a French movie about a family somewhere in Africa called White Material. Can you say confuzzled? Well we were. But all and all it was really nice and we are planning a trip next week to go and check out All Tomorrow’s Parties.
After that we headed over to Odd Cafe for some good laughs and goooood chocolate cake! I picked up the fork so quick it left a print.
Mette Hornung Rankin signed up for the Sketchbook Project last year and here is a few of the pages out of her sketchbook. I decided to crawl under my bed and grab my moleskin for a little Sketchbook Project of my own. Will keep you posted - if I succeed. I get distracted eas…. ooh pretty pictures!
_Be sure to check out the rest of her portfolio here_

This weekend was my mom and dad’s 27th anniversary and they are still so much in love, if not more. This is one of my favorite photos of them. My mom hasn’t lost her beauty and my dad hasn’t lost his goofy charm. Both just got a few grey hair, which I think makes it all just so much better.
Friday me, Wendy and Alettie decided to mission down to good old town to see what it had to offer. We ended up at Fashion Fridays on Juta Street. What a pleasure for the eyes. After that we made a quick stop at 44 Stanley for some food in our bellies. Were we pleased by what awaited us there. Dinner outside, under trees and lanterns, while enjoying the fine tunes of folk/country/Gypsy band Runaway Train. Thanks for a great start to the weekend friends.
It was my mom’s birthday a while ago and I bought her this Cookbook from Woolworths. But was I surprised when I opened it. Miss Jane Hornby really did a good job with this. What made my heart leap like a goat through a field, was the food photography and how all the ingredients are so nicely set out. Going to treat Ma Bia with something out of this for Mother’s Day.
I have recently become a tad addicted to Twitter, I must admit, so you could imagine my excitement when I saw this project Tweetland! This is an online game you can play either on you computer or on your iPhone. It basically works on the principle that while you are playing the game, it is being affected by real life tweets and trends. How amazing!
“Summer is not a temperature or some months of the year… it’s a state of mind…”
- James Jamo Coetzee
This little statement of my friend (which my hands, feet and I are still not convinced about) inspired today’s post. I’ll try anything to bring back Summer. So here is a little ray of Sun.
I think it might be time for a new watch (excuse the pun). But how can you say no to these? O’Clock watches are manufactured in Italy and designed by Laboratorio Quattro. Good news is that they are now being stocked at the wonderful world of Wolves. Will I be seeing all of you there on Thursday night for a little Howl, Red Velvet Cupcake and Watch Try-ons (made up another word).
The ‘Invitation to an Assassination’ series examines how seemingly routine and casual occurrences can quickly become extraordinary events with a profound global impact the moment a powerful figure, whether it be a world leader or pop culture icon, is assassinated.
Some clever design hey? Go look at the posters and read the little description on the left to understand the design. Clever I say once again, clever.
